(code LMI 2004: VS-II-a-A-06798)

Monastery founded by Cârstea Ghenovici, great landlord and his wife Anghelina, in the 16th century (1598), was renewed by his descendants, Gavriliţă Costache vornicul and sons - Vasile vornicul and Lupu the coffer – together with  Antohie Jora the hetman, in the 17th century (c.1686-1694) and rebuilt by abbot Nil 1852-1859.

According to the tradition, the monastery would have been built during the reign of Stephan the Great (1480), on the old place of Floreşti Village, at about 4 km far from the present emplacement. Its name came from the hermitage built by nun Florentina (Floarea) on river Simila (Smilna), whose wooden church had the saint title of Saint Nicholas and coexisted for a while with the wall church „Sf. Ilie” of the monastery, as it was stated by a document issued by Lord Ştefan Tomşa on 25th of April 1612. In 1806, the metropolis of Moldavia, Veniamin Costache, together with other descendants of the founders, donated the placement to the monastery Esfigmen on the Athos Mountain and in 1814 it taken under the rule of the Patriarchate from Constantinople.  In 1851, it had the domains: Floreştii, with the surroundings from Mirceştii and Dracsenii from the regions of Vaslui and Tutova; Laza with the hamlets and parts of Toporăştii and Ivăneştii, Strâmtura and Tămăşenii from the region of Vaslui; Lungeştii, Elacul, Odaia Bursucanului, Timuleştii and Antonia from the region of Tutova; parts of the Bereştii domain from the region of Covurluiului.

In 1852, within the monastery, near the church, the gate belfry tower and the abbot palace had 20 cells situated on the north side. After the secularization of the monastery assets from 1863, the monastery stopped its activity. The works, adjourned, were finished by the Romanian State during 1879-1901, according to the research of architect Burelli, the church becoming of chrism and the abbot palace became a hospital. The monastery was reopened in 1991.

The present assembly comprises: “Saint Ilie” Church, the abbot palace, the gate tower and the belfry, all bearing the fingerprint of the reconstruction in romantic style during 1852–1859, and the inside wall from 1800. Today, on on-going restoration with funds from the Ministry of Culture and Cults, it has food and accommodation facilities.
