Short presentation:
The monastery is situated on river Cogîlnic, 70 km far from the Capital of the Republic, in a beautiful valley surrounded by secular forests. Founded in 1678, even from the 17th century, the monastery was one of the richest from the south of Moldavia. The number church-goers coming on the days of Saint Parascovia is increasing – a feast celebrated according to the church calendar on the 27th of October. The legend of the monastery states that one of the most important servants of the Court from the 17th century, Mihalcea Hîncu, running from the Turkish with his daughter Parascovia, reached a glade from the woods. Saving themselves, he promised to build a monastery in that place. Mihalcea Hîncu kept his promise. In the 17th century, the wooden church and the cells of the nuns were often devastated by the invasions of the Turkish, this being the reason why the monastery of Saint Parascovia was not known during hard times. In 1835, a summer church of stone in Russian Byzantine style was built and so was a winter church built in 1841. During 1956-1990, the monastery was closed by the Russian power, there activating a sanatorium of the Ministry of Health.
At the request of the neighbouring villages, in 1990, the monastery is reopened becoming the most visited monastery by the tourists from Moldavia.
There are a lot of springs around the monastery, one of them being strongly mineralized.
Nowadays, the monastery enchants the sight and souls of the believers and the visitors.
