The „Dormition of the Virgin Mary” Wooden Church, Obârşeni Village, Voineşti Commune, Vaslui County (code LMI 2004: VS-II-m-A-06862)

Founded by the village community, in 1818, on a plateau situated on the eastern side of the village, surrounded by the cemetery.

Popular wooden architecture, which is remarkable through the technical craftsmanship, starting with the combination system of the drift mandrel to the spatial organization, the volumes harmony and the decoration of the façades.

Church of three-apse plan with the lateral apses polygonal in five sides and unhooked polygonal apse of the altar, entrance on the west, with threshold supported on wooden pillars, slashed in the superior side in carinate fold. It’s built of oak drift mandrel, closed in “straight loops”, and „swallow tale”, on river stone foundation and timber support. The nave is covered with vault of octagonal section, with simple arch ribs, the key decorated with a floral motif. The rich decoration of the façades carved in wood was covered through facing with planks. The interior is of carved and crenellated drift mandrel. All the openings from the threshold, both frontlet and doorway have a route in the carinate fold. The divisive pillars between the nave and the narthex are decorated in carinate fold and lugs. The framework of the doorway has geometrical motifs. The same decor is also on the frameworks of the windows, today being covered with planks. The oak door from the narthex entrance, with closing system of epoch, presents traces of painting on wood, technique which was met at the churches from Gârceni and Dumbrăveni, Vaslui county, too. Under the actual iconostasis there is the one painted on sail by Anastasie the painter, in the 18th century, brought probably from Voineşti.
