Saint Nicholas Church from Tigheci Village, Leova District;
Leova District, Tigheci Village;
The old church dates from 1794 and it was built of wood. In 1829 it was rebuilt. In 1900 its most valuable possessions were stolen. During the Soviet period, the church did not function. In 1968 the communist activists of Tigheci Village demolished the former church. On the 9th of June 1990 the first stone to the foundation of the new church was built in on the place and after the model of the old church.
The church was built of white brick. It is a beautiful church that can be seen from the distance: it is 22m high, built under the form of a cross having two big domes and four small ones. In the church there are icons with quite old inscription from the 18th century. It was built on the former old place and there are a few graves of the church founders around it:
Soltana Ohanov – buried on 6th of January 1896;
The Boyar Nichita Buicliu and Ecaterina – buried on 18th of April 1880;
Simion Saharov – doctor in Kiev, buried in 1860.
From the old church there were some cultural-religious objects left, presenting touristy interest that are deposited in the State Museum: an asperges font, a baptismal font, some small glasses, parts of a candela, a piece of a bell, some old religious ention notes, etc.
